Andrea Branzi has worked in collaboration with various companies in Italy which specialize in various design work. He has also managed to spread his designing talent to other companies that are based in other parts of the world.
In 1966 Andrea Branzi together with his friends Massimo Morozzi, Paolo Deganello and Gilberto Corretti formed the Archizoom Association. This group went ahead to come with various radical designs. The main objective of Archizoom was to show the rest of the world that there was no need to be radical. This is because radicalism more often than not achieves the opposite of what it intends to achieve.
Radical decisions are often made in the heat of the moment, thus they are always irrational. Andrea Branzi was the most influential member of the Archizoom. Due to his influence he was able to revolutionize the Italian design industry.
The Archizoom, an organization in which Andrea Branzi was a member, managed to design chairs that went against conventional design at the time. It is believed that Andrea Branzi was more concerned with the language of objects rather than focusing on the stylistic aspect of the objects.

Tom Dixon not only served as head of design at the Habitat retail chain now known as Artek, a Finnish furniture manufacturer, but also as a self-taught designer-maker in the early 1980s in London. Tom Dixon has perfectly blended the commercial as well as his creative mind throughout his profession.
While recovering from a motorcycle accident, Tom Dixon found himself with a lot of time on his hands. Being an art school dropout without any technical skills, Tom Dixon started teaching himself how to become a designer-maker after discovering welding while he was trying to repair his damaged motorcycle.
Tom Dixon was brought to England as a toddler. He grew up in London after he was born in Sfax, Tunisia in 1959. Tom Dixon played bass guitar in the Funkapolitan band as well as organized warehouse parties before he taught himself welding after dropping out of art school in 1980.
Tom Dixon made his name in the early eighties through his designs that matched the post-punk era. Despite having made his name, Tom Dixon did not have enough money; therefore, he made limited editions of his welded furniture and sold them. He designed chairs such as the Pylon Chair and the S Chair.
Tom Dixon got his furniture manufactured by Eurolounge Company that also produces work for other designers like Michael Young. Once his furniture was produced, Tom Dixon tried retailing them by opening a furniture shop to sell his products. As head of design at Habitat, he continued to collaborate with his fellow designers. Tom Dixon reissued archive designs from designers such as Robin Day, Ettore Sottsass, as well as Verner Pantion.
Tom Dixon also commissioned new designs from Marc Newson, Ineke Hans, Erwan Bouroullec as well as Ronan. Despite being creative director at the Finnish furniture manufacturer Artek founded by Alvar Aalto in the 1930s , Tom Dixon continues to initiate new design projects as an independent designer.
Tom Dixon was once described as a vertebrate designer by a friend. He designs from the bones outwards and does not really pay much attention about the surface of his finished products. At Chelsea school of art, Tom Dixon was made a technician at the tender age of 18 years, where he got involved in welding and making welding related products that was more of a hobby than a career option.
Tom Dixon looks at his drop out from Art school as having been an advantage to him since it allowed him to experiment and make his own mistakes in design without any constraints. Working with the head of Italian furniture manufacturer Giulio Cappellini was very influential in developing Tom Dixon as a designer. It was a revelation into the world of design that is highly respected, well priced and has the potential to grow.
Tom Dixon became the head of design UK by the Habitat retail chain in 1998. He also became a creative director of Habitat and developed a mobile machine that made fresh fat plastic products.

Furniture designers make their own designs, which may be further manufactured into bulk production or in limited numbers or just a single piece. Furniture designers may need to work on many areas before the final process of furniture designing. They have to explore and create ideas and observe the outline of the item whether it will be safe, useful and at the same time beautiful. The costs to be incurred have to be taken into account. The material to be used should be easily available. All these factors need to be affordable for the customer. The CAD computer generated software will be a great help in visualizing the outline of the product created by furniture designers. They have to work in coordination with other professionals such as design engineers, production and marketing engineers. In case of self-employed furniture designers, they need to carry out various activities of manufacturing, administration and marketing of items.
Furniture designers have to do their BTEC HND (Higher National Diploma) or degree courses. The selection of courses needs to be such that you get both practical skills and creative design. Either a furniture degree or an applicable degree to such courses will be beneficial, for instance furniture technology, product design, 3-D design or a spatial design.
Carpentry/Cabinet Making is a program through which students can have a changeover from high school to the post-secondary education general carpenter or cabinetmaker apprenticeship.
Diploma of Arts (furniture design) is a career-oriented course for those, who want to take up their career into designing and production of contemporary furniture. After completing this course, the students can do other related course on furniture designing and or study product, object or industrial design.
There are various other courses such as Furniture Design and Realization by FDA foundation, B.Sc in Furniture Design and Manufacture, B.Sc in Furniture Production and Technology, B.Sc (Honors) in Design and Technology Education, certificate courses in subjects such as Furniture Craft and Design, and Furniture Manufacturing and Design.
Portfolio of the designs of furniture designers if taken along with for an interview will help the employer take a decision promptly. The portfolio will immediately reflect the creativity of the furniture designers thus proving their capabilities. The design industry at present is very competitive and thus previous working experience will be a plus point. Participating in exhibitions, shows and competitions will also help the furniture designers to display their work in front of the world.
In case of self-employment, furniture designers have to learn other skills such as carpentry and upholstery. If furniture designers need any help with the studio availability or resources, the local regional crafts officer of the arts board can be consulted.
Furniture designers can become design consultants or in-house designers for reputed organization or freelance furniture designers. Some furniture designers have also gone into design management. Some furniture designers have also started their career in teaching. Similarly, carpenters and cabinetmakers are employed by the carpentry contractors, maintenance department of plants and factories, construction companies or may be self-employed. They have other career scopes such as Furniture designers or finishers, Architectural Technician, Wooden Boat Builder, Renovator, Framer, Site Supervisor, Contractor or Building Inspector.
